Community Giving

Community Giving

Care New England’s vision is to lead the way in anticipating and meeting the needs of our patients, team members, and the communities we serve. At times, this means investing our time and resources beyond the walls of our facilities and partnering with others to advance shared goals.

Care New England and its affiliate hospitals and organizations support local organizations working to positively impact community health and wellbeing. Our responsibility to the communities we serve includes supporting local nonprofit community organizations by providing financial contributions, in-kind services, and volunteer support.

Sponsorship Criteria

Mission Alignment:
The community organization's mission or sponsored activity should clearly demonstrate a commitment to addressing at least one of the following priorities:

  • Social Drivers of Health: Social drivers of health are the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age. Examples include access to adequate housing, transportation, employment, or workforce development, nutritious food, and safe communities.
  • Behavioral Health: Prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions and substance use disorders to improve overall well-being.
  • Chronic Disease Management: Strategies and interventions to help individuals manage long-term health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease effectively.
  • Maternal and Child Health: Addresses the health needs of pregnant women, infants, and children through comprehensive care, education, and support to ensure healthy outcomes.
  • Equitable Access to Healthcare: Promotes equitable initiatives designed to improve patient access to care, enhance health literacy and navigation, and address the physical, mental, and social dimensions of healthcare.
Community Engagement and Empowerment

The organization should actively engage with the community it serves, involving community members in program design, implementation, and evaluation, and empowering them to take ownership of their health and well-being.

Accessibility and Inclusivity

Care New England will not support organizations that discriminate on the basis of age, sex, race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, or disability with respect to employment, volunteer participation, or the provision of services.

How to Apply

Please review this brief list of requirements and exclusions. The following guidelines will be used in reviewing requests for charitable contributions and sponsorships and company volunteer initiatives:

  • To ensure our contributions are aligned with our mission and values, we prioritize requests from organizations that are deeply rooted in Rhode Island. Eligible applicants include Rhode Island-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, 501(c)(4) social welfare organizations, 501(c)(6) business leagues, OR community-based organizations with a physical presence, a demonstrated track record, strong community credibility, and active programming within the state.
  • Our contributions will focus on programs that support health equity, chronic disease management, maternal and child health, behavioral and mental well-being,  and social drivers of health.
  • Where appropriate, corporate charitable contributions, sponsorships, and in-kind services will promote Care New England’s mission and vision, and demonstrate social responsibility.
  • All applications will be submitted by an organization representative online through the Care New England Community Giving webpage.

The following exclusions apply:

  • Care New England will not support organizations that discriminate on the basis of age, sex, race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, or disability with respect to employment, volunteer participation, or the provision of services.
  • Contributions will be made only to the qualifying nonprofit agency. Contributions will not be made to organizations conducting fundraising (third-party giving) on behalf of nonprofit agencies.
  • Requests from religious organizations for sectarian purposes will not be considered; however, a community program sponsored by a religious organization will be considered (e.g., food pantry).
  • Requests from all local, regional, club and/or school-based sports teams will not be considered.
  • Requests from individual Rhode Island elementary or secondary schools (public or private) will not be considered, unless the request is for a new and innovative program specifically designed to address social determinants of health.
  • Requests that solicit financial support for individuals, political candidates, and political campaigns, or entities that are not nonprofit organizations, will not be considered.
Sponsorship requests can be submitted at any time, but please note that at least six weeks are required for requests to be reviewed and processed.
