Women & Infants' Doctor Named to National Committee

David Edmonson, MD, FACS, a breast surgeon with the Breast Health Center in the Program in Women’s Oncology at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, was recently named to the Communications Committee of the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

Dr. Edmonson, who sees patients in at the Breast Health Center’s offices in Providence and Woonsocket, was nominated for the position at the group’s annual meeting in May. He joined the staff at Women & Infants in 2010 and is a Fellow in the Society. Recently, he was appointed the hospital’s Cancer Liaison Physician with the Commission on Cancer with the American College of Surgeons.

“The doctors with the Breast Health Center are on many national committees, helping to shape the way women receive care for breast diseases across the country,” said Robert D. Legare, MD, director of the Breast Health Center. “Dr. Edmonson is a young physician with great drive and dedication to his patients. This new position will enable him to channel his ideas into action to benefit our patients.

The American Society of Breast Surgeons was founded in 1995 and has grown into the primary leadership organization for general surgeons who treat patients with breast disease. The group is committed to continually improving the practice of breast surgery by advocating for surgeons who seek excellence in the care of breast patients. The group’s mission is accomplished by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and by promoting education, research and the development of advanced surgical techniques.

The Society has more than 3,000 members in the United States and 35 countries across the world.
