When Jacqueline Tetreault learned that she needed a hip replacement, she was a little nervous. She had previous surgeries and had been walking with a cane for over a year. As a nurse, she’s on her feet all day and depends on being fully mobile. Her physician, Dr. Norman Kornwitz, calmed her fears, taking the time to answer all of her questions as well as sharing information about new studies going on at Brown University and statistics about hip replacement.
Jacqueline had the surgery and was amazed when the physical therapists at Kent encouraged her to stand up the first day after the operation. She couldn’t believe it when she could walk to the nurses’ station the second day after surgery. On the third day, the therapists taught her how to safely navigate stairs. Jacqueline is home now, recovering and enjoying the spring weather. She expects to be back at work, without her cane, in a few weeks.
“I’m really doing great,” she says with a genuine energy. “I would tell anyone that you shouldn’t be afraid to have hip replacement surgery. It really made such a difference for me. Everyone at Kent Hospital - the nurses, physical therapists and physicians made me feel really comfortable and confident. They were just phenomenal.”
