Following an active bid and review process, Care New England announces today that Tufts Health Plan has been selected for the 9,000 employees and dependents of Care New England hospitals. Tufts Health Plan is one of the highest rated employee health plans in the country.
“Our selection of Tufts Health Plan was based on its outstanding reputation for member and physician service and their very competitive rate,” said John J. Hynes, Esq., president and CEO of Care New England. “We are pleased to be one of the first major employers to sign on with the health plan and welcome them back to Rhode Island. We believe Tufts Health Plan offers high-quality, affordable insurance products that deliver access to the best hospitals, physicians, and specialists in the state.”
According to James Roosevelt, Jr., president and CEO of Tufts Health Plan, adding Care New England to its roster of clients is especially gratifying. He said, “We appreciate the trust that Care New England has placed in our organization to provide outstanding coverage to its employees. We are excited at this opportunity and remain confident that with our attention on prevention and wellness, Care New England employees will have a good experience as Tufts Health Plan members.”
Care New England management team carefully analyzed the Tufts Health Plan network to ensure that employees and their families can continue to access the physicians, hospitals and specialists of their choice. The analysis shows that at this time there is better than a 90 percent match for physicians, hospitals, and specialists currently used by CNE health plan members and the Tufts Health Plan. Now that Care New England has signed on with Tufts Health Plan for 2009, more providers are expected to join the network in the coming weeks.
Care New England has also made provisions for the small number of providers accessed by its employees who are not yet a part of the Tufts Health Plan network. On January 1, 2009 Care New England will bridge the gap for any physician who is part of the current health plan network and is still not part of the health plan’s growing network. As a self-insured employer, Care New England will cover claims as if the provider were still in-network and allow Tufts Health Plan and healthcare providers in the state additional time to contract. This bridge will last through March 31, 2009 to minimize unnecessary disruption or inconvenience.
